Elisabeth Gilman Day Dinner

Saturday, December 13, 2025

In 1958, Chicago Socialists established an annual dinner in honor of Socialist icon Eugene V. Debs. The dinner was sponsored by the Socialist Party USA and was celebrated in many cities until the decline of the (now reborn) SPUSA. The Debs Day Dinner is our spring commemoration, but we will also celebrate the end of each year with a dinner commemorating a woman , Baltimorean, and Socialist icon.

Join us on Saturday, December 13, 2025 for the second annual Elisabeth Gilman Day Dinner.

Elisabeth Gilman was the daughter of the first President of Johns Hopkins University and was one of the first women to graduate from JHU. She worked as a social worker and was a long-time Socialist Party organizer. She was the 1930 Socialist nominee for Governor of Maryland. She later ran for U.S. Senate, Mayor and Sheriff of Baltimore as the Socialist nominee. The Gilman Day Dinner commemorates her death on December 14, 1950.
