May Day!

International Worker’s Day – also known as May Day – is held annually on May 1st. The observance was first celebrated in 1889, in commemoration of a national strike that had started on May 1st three years early. Many Socialists were involved in the organization of the 1886 strike for the establishment of the standard eight-hour work day, and the 1889 establishment of May Day was done at the International Socialist Conference in Paris, with the Socialist Party of America in attendance.
